Groomer Report

Gas available, with fast food available at the BP station Patterson and M-179, and the gas station on 142 Door exit, 64th and M50 has gas.

The Signs are pulled and the trails are closed for the season. It was a short season with little snow but we made the best of it. Thanks to all the hard working volunteers that make this possible! If you are not part of a club consider joining and lending a hand, this trail system is the result of volunteers working many hours. Keep your fingers crossed for lots of snow next year!!

Unfortunately with the warm weather today and the rain tonight the trails are down to dirt in most areas again. We just can’t catch a break with this weather! Trails are closed until we get enough snow again.

YSSA Club John Deere Groomer was out Yesterday and Today.  Monday groomed from Shelbyville to Minor Lake.  Trail is good but roads are getting sparse with snow.  Today, Tuesday, went from Shelbyville to Gun Lake and that Trail is still in Good Shape.  Also groomed from Gun Lake to Middleville today and that trail is sparse with snow.  Be safe and enjoy!

2/7/2022 9:00AM

YSSA Club will start grooming today Monday and Tuesday for the WMSC.  Groomer will be out around 11:00 am today.  Lots of traffic this weekend so trails are showing some bare spots in corners and narrow areas.  Hopefully snow the end of the week will bring back good conditions.

2/4/2022 8:07 PM

YSSA has groomed Thursday and Friday.  The trails are in good shape and two groomer drags widths in most areas where this can be done.  The trail was groomed from Shelbyville to Middleville Friday.  There is a lot of snowmobile traffic so the YSSA John Deere groomer will not be out this weekend.  Watch for the orange Wayland Groomer between Green Lake, Wayland and Alto.  YSSA John Deere will start grooming again Monday if conditions allow.  Be safe and enjoy!

STAY ON THE TRAIL PLEASE!!

2/3/2022 11:39 PM

YSSA will be grooming from Shelbyville North to Middleville on Friday.  Wayland Groomer is grooming tonight towards Hillards.  Trails have had traffic and are thin already in the corners.  More snow is needed.

2/2/2022 4:40 PM

Gun Lake has 7 1/2″ to 8″ so far.  Western Michigan Snowmobile Council the YSSA Club will start Grooming Thursday 2/3/2022 afternoon on the west trail.  YSSA will groom the north Trail Friday 2/4/2022.

Well snow if falling and it looks like 3 to 4 inches so far this morning.  It was 46 yesterday and much rain so the trail system will be wet with not much base.  However, we anticipate the trail to open later today and we will jump back on to let you know when and where the groomers will be working.  Please respect our property owners and wait until we have a solid 4″ base to ride on. We are just as excited as you to get out and ride but riding when there isn’t enough snow damages people’s property. We have already had to deal with numerous landowner complaints this year. Remember all it takes is one mad property owner to shutdown large portions of our trail. Two or three disgruntled property owners will completely stop our trail system! Please show these property owners respect, they do not have to let us on their property. Riding on their property is a privilege and not a right!!

1/12/2022

Trails are currently closed due to lack of snow.  This includes, Wayland, Yankee Springs, Alto, Gun Lake, Martin, Hopkins, Hilliards, and Middleville.  The YSSA and Wayland Groomers are ready to go.

We had snow for a couple days. Unfortunately the snow we received was all lake effect and we didn’t have much to work with. Warm weather and lots of traffic had the trails down to dirt within a day. The YSSA groomer was out and got a chance to knock down some of the chisel plowed fields. We normally do this with a disc in the fall but the fields were too wet for us to do this. We need a good snowstorm with the temperatures in the 20’s to get a really good base started. Lake effect does not build a solid base. Please respect our property owners and wait until we have a solid 4″ base to ride on. We are just as excited as you to get out and ride but riding when there isn’t enough snow damages people’s property. We have already had to deal with numerous landowner complaints this year. Welcome to the 2022 snowmobile season!!!

Trails are currently closed due to lack of snow.  This includes, Wayland, Yankee Springs, Alto, Gun Lake, Martin, Hopkins, and Hilliards, and Middleville.  The YSSA and Wayland Groomers are ready to go and signs are in.

NOTICE: Minimum of 4 inches of snow on the trail required before open.  We are getting land owner complaints that sleds are on the trail too soon as well as motor bikes.  We are also experiencing stop sign theft in Martin and other areas.  If you have any information on this please let West Michigan Snowmobile Council or Yankee Springs Snowmobile Association know.  Please follow the 4 inch rule or we will lose the trail.  Keeping the trail is hard enough, so please don’t make this harder than it already is.  Thank you and see you on the trail 🙂

You should know that one of our groomer drivers is totally dedicated to the sport.  Mr. Terry Barton is president of two clubs, Yankee Springs and Byron Center and president of the West Michigan Snowmobile Council!!!!  Plus Terry drives the John Deere all winter long.  Terry also builds a majority of all the new trail signs you see down this way.  Give Terry the right of way and thumbs up when you pass the Big John Deere Tractor and drag.  A big thanks goes out to Mr. Jerry Plank from the Wayland Club who is spending a ton of time in the Orange Wayland Tucker Groomer.  Be safe and enjoy!

When we get snow, STAY ON THE TRAIL PLEASE!!
