Occasionally, we encounter individuals who go above and beyond to make a positive impact. Such is the case with Rick Brown. Rick played a crucial role in shaping the world of organized snowmobiling. He served as a leader, mentor, and friend to countless individuals. He tirelessly advocated for the betterment of all snowmobilers in our state, engaging in heated debates and working hard to achieve his goals. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of his passing. Rick was a grape farmer from a little town in southern Michigan who followed his passion for snowmobiling, serving on numerous boards and collaborating with hundreds of people throughout his lifetime. He will be missed by many and not soon forgotten.

The snowmobile community is thankful for his many years of volunteering!

As the founding fathers grow older and retire from riding due to physical limitations and lifestyle changes, new volunteers must step up and take the reins. The arrival of new volunteers brings fresh ideas, new friendships, and a change in direction.

Organized snowmobiling began in 1981; there were the following state associations in Michigan!

  • Michigan Association of Recreational Snowmobilers – MARS
  • Michigan International Snowmobile Association – MISA
  • Michigan Upper Peninsula Snowmobile Association – MUPSA

Through their collaborative efforts, a voice was created that still resonates strongly today. The snowmobiling industry in our state has flourished thanks to the dedication and volunteerism of individuals like Rick Brown and countless others who continue to work tirelessly. What once were mere circles on private property have now become expansive trails leading to numerous destinations, allowing riders to journey from town to town and even across state lines. These determined individuals never gave up on their beliefs, fighting against all odds until they achieved their goals. Their unwavering efforts have shaped and transformed the snowmobile program into what it is today. As we move forward, the question remains – who will step up to fill their enormous shoes?
